Tmr fall in at 3.15PM, in your pe attire. Sec 2s, everything are to be set up by 3PM. Bring your files and tags and everything necessary. Sec 3s should be down by 3.30pm unless you have a valid reason. Sec 4s of colourguard and percussion, attend masterclass intead of remedials.

Reminder: Practice on Friday will end at 9PM. Especially for the two sections attending masterclass, please convince your parent to let you stay until 9PM.

you have blossom into a good student and also a band leader, but it took abit more to reach the summit. I know you have always trying your best in everything you do. i still remember when you were sec 1 i ask you why u join band and your answer to me was i want to challenge myself and i also love to play the instrument. anyway u have been a nice girl in band. it is your last few month as the leader of the band. i hope you will be pushing harder for the band i really wish this 4 years in band have taught you something that you will benefit in band. i know after 7th April i will have another batch of sec4 leaving the band. i really wish you all the best in what you do after competition. you will do well in your O lvl.

i really hope you are fine in the clarinet section as i know you would like to be remain in saxophone together with your best frend. i still remember 2010 when you all were stil in saxophone. 4 of you like sotong keep making mistake in the section and you all always cry together as a section. saxophone is the emo section of 2010. now you have become a senior in your section i really hope you will used you knowledge of the band competition to guide your junior for the next competition. i know you can do it . another 2 month and that is the end of the competition and that is also your chance in trying to do well. i really hope you all can give yourself a last push( anyway both of you always together that why i always can write for both of you the same thing... Haha)

i would like to say is the steffi i know and always trying to improve in band is gone. she have join the lost herself in band and this is the last time you are going to the competition. i really hope you can be the steffi you used to be and make the band.

so fast you are going for your O level soon, this will be your last syf with the band. i still remember you as a small girl that is korean that join the band i did not expect you to last to the end of the 4 years to be very frank. but you have prove me wrong that you are a girl with determination. i know you will go far in life and i really hope you can revive the flute section that was once very strong. i want to say thank for the hard work you have put in the 4 years in band. i wish you all the best in the coming O Level. enjoy the last 2 month as a band member.

Actually you have improve alot in your tempo sense in your first year in 201o, i really quite happy with your progress. but because of your inconsistency in band that hinder your progress in your playing of your flute. i really hope you will put in 100 percent in the last 2 month of the coming syf as it will also be your last. i really hope you will do well in the section and help teach the new member in ur flute section.. i know you will be able to do it. you are a smart boy in ur class continue to study hard you will succeed in life.

i rarely type on the band blog i really want to tell you all that all of you are very impt to me,although i am always scolding you all. i scold you all is because i care and love you all as my kids in band. wsmb is really my everything in teaching band cos you are the first band that i took as a band director. i really recall all the beautiful memories with every single one of them. and on the day itself for syf 2008, 2010 i have fail the both group of member that have trusted in me and we did not deliver the result. it is my biggest regret in teaching band because that i have disappoint all my student that have go through journey together with me. this syf 2012 is special for me cos it will mean one more shot to redeem myself as a instructor with u all. after every practice i felt useless in not able to motivate you anymore. i really hope all of you including the sec1 will work hard for yourself. as i know most of the sec 1 will not know what is syf all about. i can tell you if you work hard and did not acheive the result you will be proud of yourself. if you do not work hard and pull the band down u will feel that it's your fault at the end of the day. trust me lets work hard for the last part of competition to april 2012. lastly i would like to say this:

Tomorrow will be the 2 day 1 night camp for Band. Attire is Band polo. Gather in the hall at 7.30. Those who are here early, put your bags/luggage at the back of the hall, and bring up the speakers......(yeah, you know)...I'll help too! Anyway, today was okay, but I hope that there will be more reponse from the members, such as asking sir tang. Section leaders, you guys will be in charged of preparing the gift for Sir Tang and the other instructors. Wenfong and winnie in charge of Sir Tang's gift, BinBin in charge of the Percussion instructor's and Sharmaine in charge of the ColourGuard instructor's.

Things to bring for the camp:

Tomorrow is the Band Handover Ceremony so I hope you guys will be present (it's compulsory anyway -.-). A few instructions for all of you!

Exco members, report 3PM sharp in auditorium in band uniform with yellow sash! We'll have a dry run. The sec4s will be passing down to us instead of the guests. Please remember your gifts for the exco members!

Band members, report 3.30PM sharp in band polo with PE pants in the auditorium! Please behave yourself tomorrow.

Sec4s (if you happen to pass by), excos meet at 3PM in school uniform in auditorium whereas normal sec4 members can report anytime from 3.30PM - 4PM.

Firstly, happy birthday, JinLe !

There will be sectionals tomorrow. Fall-in at 1PM in PE attire under ISH. I don't wanna see any latecomers and also, please bring your scores. We'll be doing music and a little of marching.

Also, please leave the 20th of May 2011 free because we'll be having our handover ceremony on that day. It'll be in the evening, tentatively starting at 4 and ending at 7. If the secondary 1s are unsure of what is handover ceremony all about, you can ask your SLs tomorrow :) and please bring $1.50 for the HOC gifts too. Hand the money to your SLs by TOMORROW. Members who are not attending sectionals for a valid reason, please try to pass to your SL during your recess or before school. SLs, pass the money to me.

Another reminder. Please leave the 30th of May 2011 to 4th of June 2011 and 23rd of June 2011 to 27th of June 2011 FREE. Since you've been told this much earlier, you have NO reason to skip band on any of the abovementioned dates.

Last Mondays problem:
-Marching: Mainly the backward march.
Things to take note, When doing the normal backward march, the height that
from the floor to your heel should not be very high. You will lose balance easily. Then your legs should not be bending too obviously, and TAKE BIGGER STEPS. Make sure you also check your dressing. You check before you move, when you move and after you stop moving. Some of you dressing wrong dont want check must say a million times then want to check especially the second line. Just don't want to check your dressing.

SYF period, one word: tough.

Really, it's not like just tough physically, it's both mentally and physically. When we were preparing for SYF 2010, there were so many times I just wanna quit and give up the fight. There were many times I sprained my ankle, get injured here and there. And after some practices, I just sit down and wonder, "What's the point of continuing?" well I THOUGHT it wouldn't really affect me whether we got a COP or a Bronze or a Silver or a Gold. But trust me, I was wrong, very very wrong.

On 10th of April, when we were outside waiting for our turn to perform, we were all so nervous yet excited. 7 mins may sound long but the entire performance ended in a blink of an eye. Nope, I'm not exaggerating. And the moment we left the stadium, so many people cried, including me. But nah we didn't just cried once. When we got our medal, a Silver medal again, almost everyone cried. Why did we cry? Some cried because they didn't put in their best, some cried because they screwed it up, some cried because they really wanted that Gold very badly. We gathered and cried our hearts out. And honestly, I don't wanna cry again in 2012. Ok maybe I wanna cry but I want to cry tears of joy instead.

Main band, just think back. Go back to 10th April 2010. How hard did you cry? What did you tell yourself at that point of time? Then look at yourself now, are you doing what you said you would? We're left with 1 year and 4 days to the next SYF. Yes, it sounds really really far away. But no, it's not at all far away, that's the harsh and sad reality. Minus off all the holidays, study breaks, etc. Do your math. Nope we barely have a year of practises left for the next band comp.

I'm not scaring all the secondary 1s but the band comp preparation period is really tough. So please, improve on your attitude. Have a sense of urgency. Do not come for band practices for the sake of coming, come for band practices because you want that gold medal, because you don't wanna regret in 2012. I know I can't expect this from the sec1s now, but for the main band, please have that sense of urgency you had back in 2010. I believe we can do it, I believe we can clinch that gold medal in 2012. But before we can have it, we have to work hard for it. No pain, no gain.

Hmm, syf 2010 wasnt really quite something i would like to remember about for me, as i was in the props section and was pulling some eagle banner... i was slack, but it wasnt something nice, wasnt something you would want people to remember you for. One of the worst thing was the costume... the stupid bee costume that i hated very much, it was disgusting and ugly. So guys, if you wouldnt want to be wearing that stupid bee costume pulling some dumb banner, do come for trainings and be the best you can be in band, this will ensure you will be in the formation and maybe a leadership post, i regretted not coming for band practices and becoming the prop people, so you guys should really start working hard and not end up in the prop section. Many of you might think Mr lim is unfair, and only give leaderships to those students he like, but take me for an example, i was known for skipping band practices, wasnt really the type of enthu members, and i am sure he didnt like me, but he gave me this post as a drum major. im not encouraging anyone to skip band, but to let u guys know that mr lim isnt biased at all. lets work hard together, for yourselves and for the band.

Syf is really a memorable event. You wont remember what happen on that night 20,30 years down the road, but you will remember the process. The process is very tiring. Stand under/march/play under hot sun(This batch very lucky because of the field upgrading crap that makes it cool on hot days).. You will remember only the process.

I can tell you its tiring, mentally and physically exhaustive. We had to run in circles just because we walked back to the previous formation(This is the reason why we want you to run to your destination).

This batch really fortunenate. The school is investing $100 000+++ on BAND, and then what? What are you guys doing to deserve that $100k? your sense of urgency not there. Late can still stroll in take your time set instru. Got class then can still go eat. Where the heck is your sense of urgency?

Those main band members, you've gone through syf. Most of you cried cause we didn't get gold. Yet, you are repeating those bad habits of yours into next years syf, then how are we suppose to get gold. Music not there, Marching not there..

Please reflect on your attitude.

Okay, today is the 10th April!!! Before anything, let's wish BiXin and Rasyiqah HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

I guess most juniors (if your section really had a sharing session) you will know what happened this day last year. I think you all did not get a chance to hear from your Majors. So, I'm going to say how I felt and everything.

Basically, all I can say about SYF was that it was tough yet at the same time extremely memorable. When I say tough, it is really hard. But I'm not saying so that the Sec 1s will quit. I trust that you all are strong enough to persist on. It may seem that SYF 2012 is very far away, but the AWESOME truth is that it is pretty near. I know some of the members (even the Sec 2 and 3) was not "enthu" about Band. But I really hope that you all can give all you've got to the upcoming SYF. As a Band Major, I expect attendence. But as a member, I want all of you to enjoy the process of fighting together for a common goal. Yes, I admit we are not up to the very good standard yet, even some Sec 1s feel that this band sucks or whatever, BUT we WILL work together to improve. Now everything is a matter of We WILL and not We CAN. So, let's work together!

I want all members in the main band to be able to play (with score) by next Friday, follow tempo and everything. Also, there will be morning sectionals on Monday morning. I want to see all members, including the sec 1s. We'll be doing marching.

As for afternoon practice, fall in at 2.45 in the ISH in your Band tee shirt. I do not wish the same thing that happened last Monday to happen again. Discipline is something this band does not have. Please wake up your ideas! This is a BAND! We suffer the consequences together. Like today, all the leaders did the 20 pushups and 40 jumping jacks with you. You all still owe me 20. Today, we were late, but it was the first time we marched down as a band.

Okay, Aihui here. Today won't really affect the seniors or juniors much, because it is just like any other band practice to you all. However, I can safely say that it is rather different for the exco leaders. I want all the exco to remember what Mr Lim said and what Syafiq and Kevin said. It is the turning point for the band. Band members! Let me make this clear to you all. Perhaps for the past three months or so, the leaders have been very, in fact too gentle, with you all. But it is going to change. Mark my words. Everyone is tired after a day at school, including the leaders. But we made an effort to smile, make the practice more enjoyable for you guys. But what do I see in return? People sediya still can turn around, fan yourself, laugh to yourself...-.-...I don't want to scold you all, because I trust that you can think as a 12, 13, 14, 15 year old. But apparently, it is not the case. When I say fall in at what time, I will no longer tolerate late-comers. If you want to test my patience, please do come late for practice on Wednesday and see what will happen to you. For Wednesday practice, in fact all other practices, I do not want to see dead people or zombie. I don't care whether you have a bad day in school or what. I want to see you putting in 100% into the practice. And bring all your technique books. Sec 1s if you do not have the technique books, ask from the librarian. You guys are no longer the baby of the band, have more initiative. If smiles from the leaders resulted in such atrocious behaviours and attitudes, perhaps leaders should be more serious and strict.

. I really wanted all of you to reflect on yourself, your attitude to Band. I know some of you think that you are not important in Band. Let me tell you, this is a BAND, not some individual show. Everyone is equally important. If the seniors can make an effort to come on time when we are released at 2.40 or the same time as you, why can't you all prepare the classrooms, speakers and everything? Some of you are still having the slacking attitude. I don't want to have to point you out in front of the Band. The few of you, please, buck up! It is already towards the end of March. So just think and reflect, I believe you all have the brains to think.

I want all section leaders to calculate this month's percentage. There'll be exco meeting on Friday. I want the percentage on Friday. I want all exco to come for the meeting, even if you are the librarian, QM, logistics leader or what-so-ever. Majors, please come and find me tomorrow :) Thank you! We will be practising music Main band will be split up and then will combine to see your progress.

Hi All Dear Band Member and Also ex Band Member of wsmb,

This is your fat mr lim blogging on the blog, i would like to say some stuff on the band blog after going through all the band video from the past till today. i would like to firstly start with 2008 batch of the band. you are the one that make it happen to what it is today. most of yoy stood by my side when i first step in the band in west spring. the most impt of all is tiangyun, yewei, and the rest of the sec 2 that is waiying valerie and gang. you are believe in me that drive me to do continue to believe we can achieve something together. and when we started the preparation for 2008 band comp. we face alot of problem and stay together with all the problem as one. and i would to thank all my colour guard of 2008. you all have give me a lot of memories of you as well becos with out u all the w/o u all there will not be colour guard section for the 2008 band comp. and you was like princess when u all join the band for comp. i was so afraid that i could not handle u all. but all of you make me believe in alot of thing. thanks you . when the day of 2008 band comp i was so happy for all of you and also nervous. i was happy becos all of you went throught the training till the final day and nervous becos that was the judgement day. and when the result was read out. WEST SPRING SECONDARY SCHOOL, Sliver, my tear flow down my face not becos of the result and becos of seeing all of you cried. some can even come to me to say sorry. i was puzzle at first and i told them it is not the abt the result it is abt the teamwork and time spent as a group training for one aim. i would really like to say thank to the 2008 batch of people esp tiangy and gang.

Now is 2010 and nearing the end of it. i was watch the video done by the band for the batch of the sec 4 in 2010. i was like time have past so fast that the first batch of sec 1 that i took have left the band and i was so happy to see them grow up from a little sec 1 kid. it is the memory that will always stay in my head. this year band comp i would say is quite a young band with mostly the lower sec member in the band and all have really done the band proud becos u all have prove that you all are capable of acheiving what you all can. and i would like to say to all of the band member. that you are always my band member even u are at the age of 80 years old. i will remember every single moment of you that i have spent with u . becos w/o you there is no wsmb band. i would like all band member to believe in their self in what they are doing not even in band. because you are very tough mentally to go through the training. i really hope all of you will strike for the best in everything you do. WSMB have bring lots of colour into my life with the band.

Lastly i would like to tell the junior that will take part in 2012 band competition. from nw till the competition of 2012 it is a long journey for all of us including me. i really hope all of you can be the same from the previous attitude and work as a team becos i believe in the end we will acheive the result but first all of you must work hard. i know you all can. cos you are west spring band that have the motto of with pride, we strike. continue to work hard.
