Hello everybody !

It's Thursday!

I realised I always blog on the days before band practices.
But don't worry, I'm not reminding you about band prac or anything.
I mean, this has still got to do with band lah.

To everyone, please memorise these following scores :

- Transformers ( First & Last Part, which means Autobots and Bumblebee)

- Babyboy

Yea. Pleaseeeeee go and memorise this two scores during this long break from CCA.

Just a reminder, all of you must get a normal file for your First Chorales and Japanese Warmup.
It's green for Woodwinds and red for Lower Brass and Percussion.

(:

Yea, that's about it.

To end off, as usual, please study hard and take care of yourselvessssssss
Don't forget to bring your thermometer on Monday, :p

It's been quite a while since I've updated the band blog.
Seriously, it feels weird not updating it.

Don't worry, I'm not here to tell you that there's band practice tomorrow, :D
I'm here to tell all of you to study hard!
I guess all of us have our English paper tomorrow.
Please, go and read many many model essays,
memorise the formats for Situational Writing, or whatever.
All of you must do well for English, okay !

Of course, not just English,
but also your other subjects too!
If there are any subjects you need help in,
don't worry, you can always ask your seniors to help.
I believe they'll be willing to help you if they have the time and ability to, :D

Band practice will resume after common test.
I hope all of you won't get used to this "slack" life without band.
But seriously, don't you feel bored at home when there's no band?
I don't know, but I seriously feel weird going home early on Wednesdays and Fridays ! :x
Anyway, my main point is, come for band practice punctually when CCA resumes! :D

Haha, yea, that's about it.
Remember to study hard !
Don't forget to take care of yourselves too !
The weather nowadays is like, WHOAH.
Yea, you know, hot and humid.
So yea, drink lots and lots of water.
But not to the extend of drinking 9litres in 2 hours or whatever, :x

Yea, you get my point, :p

With love,

From your instructor :

" Having take this band for 2 years, 3 months and 26days,
I have seen change from a very small band without any driving force to a band that improved tremendously over the years that I've taught.
It's very encouraging to see that.
I really hope this band will continue to stay together like a family, the way they are now,
where the seniors treat the juniors like siblings.
Something that is lagging in this band is sometimes you guys are really too slack.
Just hope that you all can buck up, cause competition is less than a year to go.

To all the sec1s, I know that all of you have improved, but there is still a lot of room for further improvement.
I really care a lot for each and every band member, whether in studies or band.
I just hope that you all will do well and excel in life.
That's why I'm pushing all of you so hard now.

For the seniors, you all still lack confidence in playing and marching.
But I see the seniors trying their best to improve themselves.
Remember, that next year, the competition isn't about competing with others.
You're competing against yourself.
Just persevere on for this one or two years for the seniors.
Last but not least, thank you to all the new excos for putting their best in bringing up the band.
You all are really wonderful leaders.

The real preparation will be starting in June.
Hope all of you can excel.

To all graduating members,
thank you for putting so much effort in this band.
I wish you all the best in the upcoming examinations.
Remember to come back to help the band achieve their goal next year.
I really miss working with all the sec4s. "

Yes, that was from our instructor.
And I agree with him.
Although I'm not sure what the band was like in the past,
but I've heard that there's really a great difference.

To all the juniors, we really treat you like our siblings.
We're trying our best to give you our attention,
to help you in whatever ways we can, to let you fit in and feel like a part of us.
I don't think we should have any "i don't like him","i don't like her" issues in band.
Cause we're after all, a family.

We're starting the preparation really soon,
and I hope every one of you is ready.
It's going to be hard, no doubt.
But it doesn't matter as long as we're together as a band.
Trust me, you'll have the "feel" very soon.
And it's a very unique feeling.
Personally, I've never felt anything like it until I joined band and went for SYF last year.
It's hard to describe, but I know you'll experience it soon.

I really hope all of you will persevere on.
Because we're WSMB, and with pride, we strike (:

Hello Band!

Today band prac is practically ok. But when you guys,sec1s and a few sec2s and 3s were marching down, it was kind of disappointing. The marching wasn't forceful. The sec1s, i know you're not really used to marching in lines, but im sure you guys can still make an effort right? But im impressed you guys shouted your timing. Sec2 and 3 im disappointed in you. When you were marching down, some can still talk, laugh and even waved at people! What is this? the discipline Tiang Yun and Valerie worked so on all gone to the drain? i don't want to re-start fresh and re- discipline you guys. im sure each and every of you guys out there want to get gold for the next SYF. You people already know that it is hard to get that freaking gold medal, so work hard and put in effort at everything you do. i dont wish to nag at you guys. but it's already april. we dont really have that much time to prepare for SYF. Tiang Yun talked to you guys on wed is to motivate us. show that we are the 1st batch of WSMB'ians to win the gold medal so that the batch after will be like wow, my seniors are awesome and we'll be history. awesome right? so yeah, work hard! ;DD im confident WSMB can do it!

To end this post, i will like to wish you guys lucks for your mid-year! study hard and play hard;DD we'll update you guys if band prac is cancelled or anything;D Take cares and all the best;DD

hellloo everyone!!

12th april.A memorable day it is.
Everyone in this band should know how much we(the seniors) had went through just to make our dreams come true,to achieve our common goal.We all know that it is not easy.We all know how much effort we had put in.Yet,we were unable to grab the gold we yearned so much.

Some might say,we might not have reach the skies but at least we have reached the clouds.
Yes,i think this is true. However ,for the next competition to come, are we going to touch the skies or fall ?
Anyway, its time to create history.Be the first batch of band members to get the gold :)

BAndmembers!! its time you discipline yourself and achieve your goal. Its not going to be easy.Lots and lots of hardwork, effort, determination, perseverance, teamwork and time is needed .However,it is possible.Do believe in yourselves that you can do it,and im sure that you will create history for wsmb.

Words without actions is meaningless.Make sure you take actions ,be it coming for band practices or for extra sectionals.Make that little effort ,it'll make a big difference.

REmember, you are not alone.you have great instructors( mr j.lim) ,teachers,a supportive school and capable band leaders.Appreciate them.Do not take them for granted.

WIll WSMB ACHIEVE A GOLD/GOLD WITH HONOURS IN 2010 ?

it all depends on you now.Make that choice.Make that difference.

valerie :)

hi my dear wsband members (graduated and non-graduated), i am Tiang Yun,WSMB BM from 2oo7 -2oo9 (:

even though i had graduated from WSMB, but i am still very proud of this band, deifnitely having 200% of confidence and faith that the 2009 - 2011 Exco and members will bring much more glory to this band!

Building this band up till this stage was an daunting task.

i had witnessed the worst shape of this band. i had witnessed the band to be despised by the school. i had witnessed the band to feel inferior towards other bands. similarly, i had witnessed the band to grow, i had witnessed the turning point of the band in terms of attitude and discipline. i had witnessed the band to bond and unite as one. and I managed to feel the fighting spirit of this band during the last crucial period of the Band Comp Preparation Period (it is something which i had never felt or seen across in any other places in my life).

Attitude.Discipline.Teamwork.Pride.Unity.Fighting Spirit.

My batch of leaders had strived to inculcate all this in the band. and only on 12 April 2008, we succeeded. it was the last time We (the leaders of my batch) can contribute to this band.. like what mr kumar had said on 12 April 2008 when we were in the hall "it is either today, or for some, NEVER AGAIN". how true is this? that we (my batch of leaders) cannot fight for pride and glory for WSMB anymore?

but it's alright. i see WSMB moving on with the new leaders (: i am very proud of you guys :D i see very enthusiastic Sec 1s working very hard for this band (: keep it up wsband members! this is the right spirit and attitude to go! today marks yet only 1 MORE YEAR TO DISPLAY BAND COMP 2010. We simply do not have time to fool around.

WSMB is still far away from where WSMB can be!

recruiting more members, mastering all ur marching and music, your postures, ur hentak, ur sharp turning, ur articulation, ur coordination with one another and whatsnot. it is going to be hard. but i do not see how not WSMB cannot surpass our old achievements.

GOLD, GOLD WITH HONOURS are what you guys are going to aim for. it's not a fallacy, not a dream, not a joke, we're not trying to make a fool of ourselves..we can do it,definitely.

Leaders, work hard and stay united as one.
Work hard and well with Mr Jack Lim.
Members stay confident and discipline! REMEMBER,

WSMB STRIVED TO BE THE BEST CCA (ATTITUDE & ACHIEVEMENTS WISE) IN WSSS!
BE COMPLACENT & HUMBLE WITH EVERYTHING WE HAVE!
CHINS UP,SHOULDER PULL BACK!

& till then, 2010,
WITH PRIDE WE STRIKE!~
ALUMNI! DUN FORGET TO COME DOWN & SUPPORT UR BAND!

Hello Band:D

I’ve ask all of you to read the blog today to somehow ‘celebrate’ this date, 12th april. Im sure the sec2 and 3 rmb this particular date. Ppl say memories will last forever in our head. This memory is really lyk WOW! To me, it’s the date that brought the whole band together. The impact is just superb. This is my account of what happened to me during the SYF period.

Well, I’m not really sure how to start this “story”. I’ve so much in mind that I want to say. I’ve watch all the videos made by ppl who cared for us, like the PSG, instructor etc. all this to show us how great the impact was to them, to the whole school. Do note that it’s quite long :/

Ok, this story didn’t start last year. It started in the middle of 2007. All were given the chosen song piece. We had our practice on every wed and Friday. During that time the band was weak and was lack of members. We had difficulties and were asked to go out and look for members. So, me and my friends went round looking, hunting for members. It was hard. We were only sec1s that time! I asked my classmates and none was interested. This was because band had a ‘bad’ reputation and ppl said band suck etc. However, I didn’t give up. I knew I had to help the band look for more members. If the members don’t go out and take actions, do something, then nobody can help. Beatrice, our current ASL for clarinet got Geraldine to join. It was a blessing and here she is, our Band Major today ;D . hahax. Every band member brought in at least a member but it was still not enough. So yeah, after getting the new members to learn their given instruments, they also learnt the songs.

Sometimes the SLs also had sectionals for their sections to improve their standard. I started to see every Exco member lead by our dear Ex- Band Major Tiang Yun and Assist. Band Major Valerie Seh working hard to improve the band. During the nov and dec sch hols we had practices too. And then ard nov , all of us were given the formations. I was totally lost, wondering ‘oh what the crap is this thing? How am I going to do that?’ . We started with the first formation, called “ The Shield ”. We were asked to go to the field with the sun blazing hot. I was fed up. Sweating out, marching, playing the song etc. We even trained during the December holiday. I’ll admit, it wasn’t as easy as you think it is. The holiday was meant for the students to enjoy and relax. However all the band members had to come to school for practices. Furthermore it was frm 8am till 5pm. During that period, I didn’t understand what were reasons for all of us to come super early when we can actually be in our beds. I was irritated. During the practices, we were split into sectionals, learning how to do basic marching and to also learn how to play loud and nicely. It was dry and tiring. We also did a band exchange with Bukit Panjang Government High military band. They helped us to finish up our 2nd formations by slotting into the empty spaces. It was kind of humiliating to get another band to help us to finish up our formation. So, that is the reason why Mr Lim keep on emphasizing to all of you to get more members in:D But they were really super nice and friendly to volunteer and help us! It was fun overall. I’ll never forget that experience!

Amazingly, we managed to finish up all the 6 formations by the end of December and all of us could memorize the songs. I rmbed our BM, Geraldine making the cards for the SYF. We also designed the Band-T, this current one. All of were excited. When we got our band-t all of us wore it for the next practice. [Sec1s, do be patient. I think your Band-T is in the progress ;DDD] hahax. For the 1st day of sch, a new year, 2008, we like usual kids, went to sch, had assembly. However, after the assembly, all the band members had to go for band practice. We didn’t go for lessons. I rmb it clearly. I went up to my class, greeted the teacher and then went down for band prac. See, this memories wont disappear if they’re sweet memories. Hahax!! We had the usual prac all the way till 5pm. It was the same routine until the 3rd day of school I think. As days pass, the day got closer. From having a weak band to now having an improved and stronger band. Mr Seet and the teachers praised that the band wasn’t the same. It’s new and better. It was no longer the old band. It’s the new band, improved and better band. The school also stopped talking bad about us. And it is all thanks to Mr Lim and the other instructors and also the Exco especially our Ex-Band Major, Tiang Yun and Ex-Assist Band Major Valerie Seh. From having lots of practices on Saturdays to having only less than 5 more Saturdays. Time flies fast. The nearer the day came, the more practices we had. We also had practices on Monday mornings before classes start. It was a tough journey for all. Tiang Yun always told the band to endure when we were on the field, whether it was raining or whether the sun was blazing on top of our heads. The common word used was ENDURE. She had this common phrase “Chins up, shoulders pull back. Look up. Endure!” and this particular quotation, “This SYF is lyk a war. All of us must work together in order to win the war. If im the only 1 who is having the fighting spirit then obviously I think we’ll lose the war. And the gold medal is our aim.” . I’ll never forget that. She kept telling me not to give up and to continue to persevere. The journey was tough. All of us had to go through ups and downs. But it was worth. The band was somehow bonded. We were lyk 1 HUGE family. Hahax.

The day came at last. I rmbed what happened on that particular day. Everything! At first in the morning, me and my friends had breakfast at mcdonalds, Bukit Panjang Plaza. We also managed to saw Bukit Panjang Government High School Band there. Some of their members also had their breakfast there too. Even the Band Major! We wished each other good luck. Then we went to school. As usual, we placed our belongings in the percussion room and dance studio. Had practice and mr lim told us that whatever result we got, he’s proud of us. We had our last performance at the school field before going off to National stadium for the SYF. After that we had our lunch. And unfortunately it began to rain. Me, Beatrice, Rasyiqah, Syafiq, Kang Xun and some other ppl sat and discussed about what was going to happen and also prayed hard it would not rain later. All of us were nervous. Feeling excited, nervous and scared. I was really really scared. Scared that I’ll cork up and scared that the band dont do well. Mins ltr, we were told to get ready. We put on our uniforms, tied our hairs, put on our marching shoes and got our instruments ready. Then the crowd began to form. When I went up to the hall, the hall and parade square was packed with ppl. Those ppl were the one who cheered for us and screamed when we performed. They cheered as the band got ready, tuning the instruments. I felt lyk wow. Just wow and amazed of how the band had brought this big group of ppl to come down to support us. After tuning the instruments, by sections, we went down to the foyer. And I thought the hall was super packed. The canteen was worst. It was just really pack! I felt more confident that time after seeing the school cheering as we made our way down to the foyer. As we were in the bus, the clarinet and flute section, all girls were all super high, including me. And also very very nervous. My heart beat was lyk “Thump! Thump! Thump! Thump!” every second. It felt like you’re going for a big event lyk the Olympics! Hahax. Soon, we arrived. The band marched to the waiting place. We waited there, patiently. We did our last practice for music together before the SYF starts. Then we took pictures. Mr Anthony, our drill instructor made a video for us. I don’t think the video is at youtube now. But I’ve the video with me in my phone. So yeah, those interested, come look for me or ask around frm your seniors;D Ok, after doing the warm-ups etc., all of us were given water and bread. Those who needed to empty their bladders went quickly to the toilet.

Mins ltr, it was our turn to perform. We waited at this tunnel, now really feeling super nervous. I had butterflies in my stomach. I felt lyk as if I was going for war, scared if I’ll survive it or not. The band before us played the last beat. It was our turn. My heart was pumping hard and fast. We stepped into the field. The school roared and cheered. I felt confident. I felt great when I stepped onto the field. I felt that yeah, I can do this and I’ve practiced hard for this. I can do it! They announced and signaled us by horning a horn sound. “TOOT”! It was loud. There was silence. Terence, our Drum Major started the show. I marched down forcefully, played out every note, turn as fast as I could and did the gimmicks. It ended so fast. That 15mins took up months to prepare. And it was only 15mins. But I felt good after doing the show. Lyk my shoulder felt lighter, no more butterflies in my stomach. We waited in a tunnel with another band. Both bands suddenly somehow bonded during that short time. We cheered and sang together. There’s a video at the band blog that showed that time we played with the other band. It was really memorable. After some time, all the bands were told to go out to the field to get their respective results. We marched out, proudly and the school roared and cheered again. I felt proud of myself and the band. Terence went out to get the trophy. The judge announced the best drum major award. Then the best band award. I crossed my finger. Praying, thinking, hoping we’ll get gold. My heart beat got faster. I was praying hard. “ West Spring Secondary School…” there was deep silence, I prayed, heart beating very fast, then “ Silver Award”. The school cheered. I felt weak. My feelings of confidence all gone. Happiness was sucked out of me. I just couldn’t help it but to cry. Then Mr Kumar got us to the front of the school. They still cheered as loud as possible despite we getting silver. We played songs for them. While we were playing, we were crying, disappointed with ourselves. Mr lim showed us the trophy while we playing the songs and said that it was good. I felt disappointed with myself. I felt lyk there was no more happiness in my life. It was hard for me and the band. We went out to a bigger space and were given time to cry out and look for our friends. We told each other not to cry but all of us were just crying there. The band didn’t stop crying till we reach school. Friends came and comfort us saying it was ok and not to cry anymore. After keeping the instruments, we went down to the dance studio. Ms Chew said she was proud of us and cried after saying that. Mr Seet, our principal said that it was because of us that the school for once united and cheered loudly. He said we united the whole school together and he was proud of us. Mr Siva also said that he was proud of us despite the award we got. It was really touching. All the band members had eyes, red and sore due to the crying. It impacted me for days till I got over with it. Even when im typing all this, that particular memory is playing over and over again in my mind. That day is really a day that brought WSMB together, change WSMB and really impact me a lot. The pain and tired feelings wasn’t permanent but the memories are.

I will really like to take this opportunity to thank the teachers and instructors that have been working hard for that day, that 15min show. You guys changed me. Frm hating to go out to the muddy field to enjoying playing there. Frm being quiet and shy to being more sociable. I thank you a lot.

So band, after reading this, I hope you guys wont want the past to repeat again, because I don’t. I promised to myself that next year, 2010 this band, WSMB will go out there and bring WSSS the 1st Gold medal for SYF. I know the band can do it and I believe the WSMB can do it! And the key thing that’ll lead us to that gold medal is teamwork and discipline. We are A BAND and will always stay together. We’ll never quit although we’ve failed. Have the fighting spirit with you and we’ll be ready for the war, SYF next year! WITH PRIDE WE STRIKE, WSMB!

Quotation: Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever. - Lance Armstrong

Its since been a long time since i last post on this band blog.

Seniors had already partially stepped down.
I hope all of you will work really hard with all the majors and Mr Lim.
Do not regret when you guys get your medal next year.
All your attitudes are getting from bad to worse.
You guys must know that music is not something that can be learnt overnight,
you need constant practice.
I REALLY REALLY hope all of you would come for band practice.

Especially for the juniors, you need to have a stable foundation. You must build it yourself.
Section leaders, contact your members.

Lastly i want all the juniors to RESPECT your senior, I know that all your PSLE results are much higher then the current Sec 3s. But please, you are not the best. With good academic results and bad attitude, you all nothing. Majors should punish them when they are in the wrong, but first, all of you must set a good example.

End of my Speech. Thank You(:

Hello band members,

I can't help it, but I have to say that I'm actually quite disappointed in the sec2s.
The sec2s are supposed to have their promotion test last Friday,
but almost 80% of them did not attend band practice.
I know some may be sick, but what about the rest?
Did you all skip band practice because you wanted to avoid the promotion test?

If yes, then I want to say that this is not what a band member should be like.
When there's an upcoming event or test, we should be prepared for it,
practise and make sure we can perfect it.
Running isn't an option.

So sec3s, I hope you see this and go practise hard for your promotion test.
It has been postponed to the week after next week.
That means you have more time to prepare.
The sec3s are more senior in the band,
so I hope all of you will give your best and set a good example for the juniors :D

Time flies and it's April already.
A week from today would be the 12th of April.
Do all of you still remember this date?
I guess the sec1s are unaware,
but yes, 12th April last year was the date of our band competition.
I guess many of you have already watched the video of our performance.
We didn't get what we aimed for last year,
that is why it's time to work even harder now so we can hit our target next year.

I think we should all be ready to train hard.
We'll be starting on the preparation for band competition very soon.
I really hope all of you will persevere and give in your best for every single band practice.

When you chose band as a CCA, it may be out of fun and interest.
But now, you're part of WSMB and we have a common goal,
which is to work hard together and get our desired medal, as a band.

Perseverance, is very very important in band.
It's going to be a tough journey, all of us know that.
But as long as we're going forward together as a band, don't you think it's all worth it ? (:

Please, every single band member,
it's time to work hard!
Don't forget to take care too.
We want to see happy and healthy members in band! :D

Enjoy the rest of the weekend and see you tomorrow ! :D

Hello dearest members:]]

Today, the band was started by our Assist. Drum Major, Jordan and Assist Band Major, Faith. All the se3s except zi yu and syafiq went for the forensic trail thing. i hope all of you've enjoyed yourselves cause i really had a great time there at Vivo. I hope the sec2s did well for their promotion test just now ;DD It'll be the sec3s turn on this coming wed. all the best;] do go and learn the scales and Prince of Egypt. All the best rights?;D and just now when the sec1 and 2 fall out i punished the clarinet section. the reason is that you guys didnt told/inform the QMs that you borrowed home the instruments last friday despite being told that you're supposed to inform yong xun or michelle by your ASL. hope you guys understand and wont repeat the mistake ok?;D so yeah sec1s, if you want to borrow your instruments home, DO inform the QMs which is yong xun and michelle okies?;DDDDD

And ppl are getting sick this few days, with fever, soar throat etc. so pls take good good cares of yourselves ok? drink lots of plain water and eat your 3 meals;] i dont want later all my band member fall sick. it'll be really sad and worrying. so, take care alrights? hahax.
;D ok,continue to strive sec1s. you guys are improving day by day. Jordan praised that you guys are quiet today and didnt gave Jordan and Faith a hard time shouting at you guys. well done;DD keep up the good job. im sure it can be better right?;D

Till here only. and about wed prank, im really sorry to those who stayed back and ran.so sorry..hahax! ok, take cares and continue to study hard and do your homeworks;D See ya at school on mon;DDD

Hello band members,

Happy April Fools' Day!

We didn't mean to prank all of you today.
Teacher-in-charge didn't come, so we were unable to have band practice.
If I'm not wrong, it was shown on the screen this morning.
But yea, that's the reason why band practice was cancelled.

Still, there's band practice on Friday,
so please be punctual! :D

And lastly, please keep all the thick stacks of paper given out properly,
they're very important, okay :D

Take care everyone,
Have a nice day ahead ( although the day ends 3hours later)

:D
